Frequently asked questions

New here? The how to play guide walks through a contest with pictures.

The basics

Is BigGameProps really free?

Yes. There is nothing to buy and nothing to cash out. You play with fantasy dollars, which have no real-money value, cannot be purchased, sold or traded, and win no prizes of monetary value. You must be 18 or older.

Is this gambling?

No. BigGameProps is a free-to-play game. It does not accept wagers of money or anything of value, and nothing you win can be exchanged for money.

Do I need to download an app?

No. It works in your browser on a phone or computer. If you like, you can add it to your home screen from your browser's menu so it opens like an app.

Can I try it without signing up?

Yes. A mock contest replays a real, finished game in real time against simulated opponents, with no account needed. It plays exactly like a real contest, but nothing counts toward your stats.

Is this connected to the NFL?

No. BigGameProps is an independent game and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the NFL, any NFL team, or ESPN. Team names and logos belong to their owners.

Where does the game data come from?

Schedules, scores, clocks and play-by-play come from third-party sports data feeds. Feeds can be late, incomplete or wrong, so a prop occasionally settles a little later than you expect, or is voided and refunded.

Playing a contest

How does a prop work?

A prop is a question about the game with a number, called the line. For example, "Yardage of next completion: 10.5". You pick Over (it will be more than the line) or Under (less), choose how much to stake, and wait for the play. Lines end in .5, so there are no ties.

What do numbers like -110 and +105 mean?

They are the odds, which set what a winning bet pays. A plus number is what you win on a 100 stake: +105 pays 105. A minus number is what you must stake to win 100: -110 means staking 110 to win 100. On a 2,000 stake, +105 wins 2,100 and -110 wins about 1,818. You also get your stake back when you win.

How long do I have to bet?

A next-play prop is open for about 20 seconds, shown by the countdown on its card. The "Pick your props" menu, with counts and drive props, stays open a couple of minutes, and quarter props can be answered before the quarter even starts. You can change a bet while its clock is still running.

Do I have to bet on every prop?

No. Take the ones you like and skip the rest. Skipping costs you nothing.

What is the most I can bet?

Normally a quarter of your current bankroll on one prop. If your bankroll falls below half of where you started, the limit rises so you can climb back, and the card always shows your exact maximum. There is also a small minimum bet.

How are props settled?

Automatically, from the live play-by-play. Next-play props settle on the next qualifying play. Quarter and drive props settle when that quarter or drive is over, which can be after your contest's window ends. If a prop cannot be settled, for example the game ends before it happens, it is voided and your stake is refunded.

What if I run out of money?

If your bankroll falls below the minimum bet and nothing is pending, you can rebuy. A rebuy restores your starting bankroll. Contests include one rebuy by default, and the host can change that. Rankings count profit against all the money you started with, so a rebuy never lifts your rank.

How is the leaderboard ranked?

By profit against the money you have put in. To be ranked you must place a minimum number of bets, 5 by default. Until then you are marked "unq." for unqualified. Final places are recorded when the contest ends.

Why does my contest say "#2"?

Public contests hold up to 50 players so everyone has a real shot at a top finish. When one fills up, the next players join a copy of it with the same games and props, and its own leaderboard. You only compete against the players in your own copy.

Joining and hosting

How do I join a contest?

Open the lobby, pick a contest and press Join. You can join as soon as it is listed and wait in it until it starts. If a friend sent you an invite link, open it and you join straight away. If they sent a code, enter it on the Join page.

Join with a code →

Can I join after a contest has started?

For a short time, yes. Joining stays open for a short grace period after a contest starts, 2 minutes unless the host changed it. A contest that covers a later quarter stays open until that quarter begins.

Can I be in more than one contest at once?

Yes. Each contest has its own bankroll, props and leaderboard, so they never affect each other. If two of yours run at the same time, the contest page tells you.

What if a contest does not get enough players or a game is delayed?

A contest that does not reach its minimum number of players is cancelled at kickoff, and one whose game never starts is cancelled after a few hours. Nobody loses anything either way.

How do I host my own contest?

Click your name at the top right of the home page and choose Create contest. Pick the games and the length, set the bankroll, and make it public or private. A private contest gets an invite link and a code to share. You can host up to three at once, and edit one until it goes live.

Where do I manage the contests I host?

In the Hosting tab of your profile, from the same menu. It lists each contest with its status, its players, and buttons to open it, edit it and copy its invite link.

Your account

Why do I need to confirm my email?

You need a confirmed address to host contests and to get contest reminders. We email you a link when you sign up, and you can ask for another from your profile.

Will I get emails?

Only account emails (confirming your address, resetting a password) and, if you leave it on, a short reminder shortly before a contest you joined starts. You can turn the reminders off in your profile settings.

Can I change my name or picture?

Yes, in Profile, then Settings. Your username is the name other players see. You can pick one of the generated avatars with Change, or upload your own picture.

What time zone are the times in?

Eastern or Pacific, whichever you choose with the ET and PT toggle in the footer, the lobby and your profile. If you have not chosen, the site uses whichever is closest to your device.

How do I delete my account?

In Profile, then Settings, at the bottom. Your account is hidden at once and permanently anonymized after 14 days. Signing back in within that time cancels the deletion.
